Rini Ismayanty – An MSc. (S2) Student of Plant Breeding and Biotechnology Major, Department of Agronomy and Horticulture, School of Graduate Study, IPB, Bogor-Indonesia, met her MSc. (S2) advisory committee for the first time on Friday, January 13-2012. In that meeting, Rini has presented her research plan for the MSc (S2) thesis and discussed the detail of their implementation with her supervisory committee members.
Members of her MSc. (S2) supervisory committee are Dr. Dewi Sukma (Chairman) and Prof. Sudarsono of PMB Lab., IPB (member). The title of Rini Ismayanti’s MSc. (S2) thesis research will be: “Molecular Analysis and Pollen Dispersal Evaluation in Kopyor Coconut at Pati, Central Java.”
In her research plan, she will analyze a Pati Kopyor coconut population using SSR markers. The generated data will be used to evaluate genetic diversity of the Kopyor coconut population. Moreover, the data will also be used to genotype the targeted individual palms in the region.
For pollen dispersal evaluations, a number normal and kopyor fruits will be harvested from a number of selected mother palm and their total nucleic acid will be isolated. The genotype of the progenies will be analyzed using the same markers as in the adult palms.Rini hopes that results of her MSc. (S2) research will help Kopyor farmers to manage their Kopyor plantation and increase Kopyor fruit yield.
The first advisory committee meeting run well and the advisory committee members have proposed some suggestions to improve Rini’s plan for MSc (S2) research. Subsequently, she need to revised the MSc. (S2) thesis research proposal document and prepare for the research proposal seminar. She also need to submit the revised proposal document as one of the administrative requirements for student at PBT Major. The other more important matters are to carry out the research plan and generate enough data for her thesis.
All PMB Lab staffs and associated graduate students congratulate Rini Ismayanti for finishing her first MSc. (S2) advisory committee meeting. We hope that she will be able to complete all administrative matters and generate all the necessary data for her MSc. (S2) thesis.
