Two scientists from Bogor Agricultural University (IPB), Faculty of Agriculture, Department of Agronomy and Horticulture are attending The First International Symposium on Tropical and Sub-Tropical Ornamental (TSO2016), at Krabi, Krabi Province, Thailand. Dr. Dewi Sukma of the Plant Biotechnology Division and Dr. Syarifah Iis Aisyah of the Plant Breeding Division, Department of Agronomy and Horticulture, IPB will spend three days (7th – 9th March 2016) of their time to participate in the TSO2016 and to present the progress of their tropical ornamental research results.
Dr. Dewi Sukma, updates the progress of her research activities by presenting two oral presentations, entitles:
- Disease Resistance Breeding of Phalaenopsis Spp. for Tropical Environment and Molecular Marker Development for Plant Selection
- Molecular Marker Development Based on Diversity of Genes Associated with Pigment Biosynthetic Pathways to Support Breeding for Novel Colors in Phalaenopsis
While Dr. Syarifah Iis Aisyah, updates the progress of her research activities by presenting an oral presentations, entitle:
- Induced Mutation by Acute and Fractionated Gamma Ray Irradiation on Colleus sp.
In addition to participating in the symposium, Dr Dewi Sukma and Dr. Syarifah Iis Aisyah have also proposed to the organizing committee to bring “the second International Symposium on Tropical and Sub-Tropical Ornamental” to Indonesia. The decision for hosting the second symposium will be done on Tuesday – Feb 8, 2016. We hope that Dr Sukma and Dr Aisyah succeed in that mission and the second symposium on TSO will be hosted by Indonesia in 2020.
All PMB Lab staffs and associated graduate students wish them good luck in their presentation. We hope that the visit will be fruitful and beneficial for furthering scientific activities in tropical ornamental research in Indonesia.
