Gigantic Dioscorea alata tuber

Gigantic tuber of Dioscorea alata – the subject of Aser Yalindua dissertation research in his PhD. program at IPB. The tuber in this photo is a one meter long, 40 cm in diameter, and 10 kg in weight. Prof. Sudarsono is a lecturer and research scientist at Department of Agronomy and Horticulture (AGH), Faculty of Agriculture, Bogor Agricultural University (IPB), Bogor, Indonesia. He coordinated Plant Molecular Biology Lab (PMB Lab) in the Dept. of AGH where a number of MSc. and PhD. graduate students from IPB Graduate Program work and conduct their thesis or dissertation researches.

Other than maintaining PMB Lab., Prof. Sudarsono’s academic activities include giving lectures at IPB Graduate Program (AGH634. Plant Genetic Engineering; AGH635. Molecular and Cellular Analysis in Plant Breeding) and conducting research about application of biotechnology and molecular biology to support breeding of tropical crops.

Since 1996 until 2010, Prof. Sudarsono has directed more than 50 MSc. (S2) and close to 50 PhD. (S3) graduate students, respectively. The number of the graduate students (MSc. and PhD) are still increasing in the year to come. The students’ thesis or dissertation researches are mainly trying to solve various problems associated with plant disease resistance and stress tolerance in a number of tropical crops.

Prof. Sudarsono dedicate PMB Lab blog as a communication media among alumni, current students, and staffs associated with PMB Lab, Dept. of Agronomy and Horticulture, Fac. of Agriculture, IPB, Bogor – Indonesia. This blog has various information related to alumni activities, PMB Lab’s on going activities and other related matters.

    salam kenal pak,mao tanya apa bibit kopyor asal kultur sudah ada dijual pak ? berapa tingkat keberhasilannya ?
    dimana yg menjual bibit kelapa kopyor pak ? tks

      Terima kasih atas salamnya pak Adi. Sebagai info: Bibit asal kuljar sedang dalam proses inisiasi di lab saya, belum akan dikomersialkan. Kalau bibit kopyor heterosigot lab saya menyediakan. Maksudnya kopyor heterosigot (Kk) adalah pohon kelapa yang menghasilkan tandan buah, yang sebagian buahnya akan berupa kelapa kopyor (max. 50%, minimum 25% dari total buah) dan sebagian yang lain buah kelapa normal. Dari buah kelapa normal yang dipanen, (2/3)-nya dapat dibibitkan menjadi bibit kelapa kopyor heterosigot dan (1/3)-nya merupakan kelapa sayur (kelapa normal – tidak menghasilkan bibit kopyor!). Bibit kopyor heterosigot yang kami sediakan sudah diseleksi menggunakan indigenus knowledge (kearifan lokal) dan dari penanaman yang pernah dilakukan, dari 10 bibit yang ditanam – 9 bibit menjadi pohon berbuah kopyor (pohon kopyor heterosigot). Keunggulan lainnya, bibitnya merupakan bibit kelapa genjah (ada tiga macam, yaitu warna buah coklat, hijau dan kuning). Demikian informasi dari kami.
